The Sanchovi

Above and beyond

The first thing that wowed me when I got into Vancouver is the fact that you the mountains dominate the skyline. I still can’t get over it. A dank alley seems a little less threatening when there is a raw pile of nature’s beauty in the distance, rather than being somewhere you can step in it.

My not so secret obsession

Posted in Photography by sanchovi on 28/04/2010

When I arrived in Vancouver, going to the grocery store scared me. In fact, it still does. I have no idea how to use 75% of the food that lines the shelves. So I was happy to see a familiar face.

The same cookies are sold in Australia under the brand “Australia’s Choice” from K-mart’s around the country. I’m a little puzzled when it comes to the “President’s Choice” branding because Canada doesn’t have a President. It has this guy.

I was pleased to find that the recipe is exactly the same as the biscuits I love back home. I embraced them as homesick comfort food and decided to eat them until I was forced to quit. The fact that they were on sale didn’t help either. Consuming 6 packets in under 2 weeks can’t be good for you.

Cracks

Posted in Photography by sanchovi on 27/04/2010

Generally speaking, things crack under pressure. The amount of pressure that is needed to be applied for the structures physical appearance to be altered varies depending on the object that is under pressure.

Unrelated points of interest:

  • These tiles are really interesting. You don’t see many like this these days.
  • I once asked my uncle in the Philippines what type of drugs are around. He replied with “Mostly the pot and sometimes they smoke the cracks.”
  • This photo was taken in East Van on my way to dig for second hand gold at Value Village. I didn’t find anything worth purchasing on that trip.
  • I just saw a lady walking a 3 legged dog outside my window as I wrote this post.
